Craft at Lavendyl
Craft Courses
We run a variety of craft courses at Lavendyl. These range in length from 15 minutes to several days. Our felted soap course is suitable for all ages, and even pre-school age children should be able to do this activity.
Felted Soap
Suitable for all ages, this craft only takes 15 minutes. The result is a beautiful felted soap. Using your creative flair, you can make a personalised gift for someone. Once you have used the soap, you will have a scented pad you can put in a drawer. Cost $10 for one soap and $15 for two. Pre-booking not necessary.
Lavender Wand
This old craft is fun and suitable for all ages. You will make the wand using fresh lavender you will pick yourself. Allow 30 minutes for this activity. We can run courses at short notice outside of our high season, but advance notice is helpful. All materials provided. Cost $7.50 per wand. Pre-booking not necessary.
Dorset Buttons
Dorset Buttons are fun to make and are suitable for most ages. Their use is only limited by your imagination, from a fastening on clothes to jewellery, a wall hanging to a dream catcher. What would you make?
We can run these sessions at short notice outside of our high season, but advance notice is helpful. Allow 2 hours for this activity. All materials provided. Cost $25 per person.
Felted Scarf
The blend of merino and silk felts into a luxurious scarf as a gift or for yourself. We sell these as kits for you to take away and do at home. Alternatively, for those who would like a little support, we run a short craft course where you can make one. We can run these sessions at short notice outside of our high season, but advance notice is advisable. Allow 2 hours for this activity. Cost $50 per person.
Weaving
We always have a loom warped up for customers to have a go. We are happy to demonstrate and get you started if you want to try.
Book a weaving session to learn a little more. We have a selection of looms available for you to use. As an Ashford stockist, we can help you choose the best loom if you decide to take your weaving journey further.
Contact us for details of our weaving courses.
Spinning
The art of spinning takes a bit of practice. Consequently, a learn to spin course takes two days.
You will spend time using a drop spindle to learn the basics of putting twist into yarn before moving on to a spinning wheel. You will use ready-prepared fibre, which we will provide.
As an Ashford stockist, if you decide to take spinning further, we can help you choose the best wheel for you.

Sadly we are unable to answer questions where the answer can be found on the website such as opening hours and prices.
It is impossible for us to predict when our large beds of lavender will be in flower - it varies from year to year. For up-to-date information on the gardens please check our Facebook page.
